Sophia Guadalupe Padgett Pérez is an international interdisciplinary artist who was raised in Miami recieved her BFA with an emphasis in photography and art therapy from the School of The Art Institute of Chicago. Her work primarily speaks on her bicultural and bigeographical upbringing as a queer immigrant from Venezuelan and English decent. She is on a journey through her art practice to unravel her histories, her relationship to colonialism in religion and culture, and the ocean's role in these events in the past, present, and future. She is taking hold of these narratives and reclaiming them through multiplicities of mediums and healing practices in her work.
"The ocean is the only reason I am able to make work; the reason I was born in a country made up from the spaces between other lands, and the people I love whose air fills those places."
